Behavior Management Techniques for Children with Developmental Disabilities

Abstract

|
|
Behavior management techniques have been discussed for children with behavior problems ranging from hyperactivity and impulsivity in children with learning disability to self injury and stereotypy in children with severe mental retardation and autism. Treatment approaches discussed are: Pharmachological approach for hyperactivity, self injury, stereotypy, and pica;behavioral approach for self injury, stereotypy, aggression, as well as teaching self-help skills to children with severe mental retardation;self-control techniques for children with mild handicap;cognitive therapy for children with conduct problems;and biofeedback approach for psychosomatic symptoms and anxiety disorders.
